SKIN DAMAGE
The skin is the largest and one of the first placce to show the signs or
symptoms of infection or unhealthy lifestyle. The signs also include
itching, flakiness, dryness and other common infections. The various
types of skin damage are:
BURNS
Skin, when heated beyond 49°C will burn. Burns are classified into three types
»First-degree
»Second-degree
»Third-degree
Of these, third-degree is considered as the most serious burn. In second or third
degree when burns more than 10% of the body, the pulse rate is affected and
blood pressure falls. Burns must be checked by the physician.
CHAPPING
Chapping is the excessive scaling of skin. This is the damage of the top layer of
the skin due to excess or prolonged exposure of skin to soap, water, washing-
fluids and especaially to chemicals. This can prevented by drying hands after
wash and by using gloves while working for long time under water.
STRECH MARKS
Strech marks are most common due to breaks in the lower layers of skin as a
result of thinning. This can happen at puberty or during pregnancy. These cannot
be removed.
KELOID SCARS
The overactive production of the collagens produce a thick area of scar tissue.
This scar is known as keloid scar
