Acne is a common skin infection. It normally appears as a raised spot with blackhead or
whitehead. It is filled with pus. Acne is most common among teenagers and late twenties.
Acne may spread from face to throat, back and chest, in case of severity.
Acne is caused due to the hyper activity of the sebaceous (oil-producing) glands. The
disturbance in the normal level of testosterone harmone causes the hyper activity of
sebaceous glands.
The dead skin cells also cause acne. They block the follicles. These two effects result in
formation of whitehead or blackhead.
Acne is also caused by bacteria present on skin. The excess oil makes the best
environment for the activity of the bacteria. Normally, bacteria are inactive.
Symptoms
Raised spots on the face with or without pain.
There are various types of acne. The most common are acne vulgaris and acne rosacea.
There is no complete cure for acne as on date but treatments are available to reduce the
spots and to prevent the formation of spots.
Various anti acne creams are available. These creams give temporary treatment. These
creams are to apply on the infected areas. These are first preferred treatment. This gives
result in short span of time. They also reduce the visibility of scars post treatment.
Antibiotic tablets can be taken for better treatment. These do not act on the blackheads or
whiteheads. These cannot reduce the visibility of scars on the face. Antibiotic are to be
taken for about minimum of a week. Depending upon the severity dosage varies.
Advancement in technology also leads to the improved treatments. Now laser therapy is
available. Quick and effective treatment.
